Your people. Drivers work from a depot and are put on trains automatically; the other roles work across the whole company. What each costs is paid monthly with your bills.

Your staff are on strike. Trains are being cancelled - raise pay rates below to end it.

What each role does
Driver - works from a depot (the station you hire them at) and is crewed onto trains automatically: each train goes to the driver who can take it with least waste - one already on duty there, then one on duty nearby, then a new turn from the nearest depot. A turn starts and ends at the depot and lasts at most 12 hours, travelling to and from trains elsewhere as a passenger included; 30 minutes' break after 5 h 30 min driving, 12 hours' rest between turns and five turns a week. Drivers only drive classes they're passed out on (a new class needs a 5-day traction course) and learn a new line with a conductor driver on their first three trips. Experienced drivers recover from delays faster than new hires.
Conductor/Guard - not assigned individually. Recovers fare revenue that driver-only operation misses (on-board checking and selling). Up to +8% revenue, scaled to how many trains you run.
Controllers (control room) - not assigned individually. They run your Control room: they re-plan around a fault or a late train so less of the delay lands on your passengers - up to 25% less, with one controller for every four of your trains running. Control's contingency plans for a blocked line work with or without them.
Depot/maintenance staff - not assigned individually. Reduces how often fleet faults happen at all, by catching problems early. Up to 30% fewer faults, with one for every three units.
Planning analyst - studies your timetable and passengers for Analytics: underused workings, crowded trains, idle units, stations you run through and journeys nobody runs. More analysts on a study, sooner.
The crew plan above says how many drivers your timetable needs at each depot. Guards, controllers and depot staff work across your whole operation, so you hire to a level that matches its size; past it they add little.

Pay and morale

RoleBase pay a monthPay rate

Pay below the going rate saves money but lowers morale; low morale for long enough brings a strike, which cancels trains.
